Custom design means you work directly with a member of our team to create a piece that is entirely your own. With the guidance of our custom design experts, you choose the elements yourself, from the stones used to the style of the setting, the finish and the precious metal. Everything is then made by our goldsmiths in the studio within our Queen Street West shop.
Most custom pieces take six to eight weeks from your first consultation to collection. Complex settings or sourcing a particular stone can extend that, so we always recommend starting early if you have a specific date in mind. We will give you a realistic timeline at your first appointment.
We like to work within your specific dream price range. Our custom engagement ring settings start at approximately $3,000 without a centre stone and are priced depending on the size of the stone, the metal and the complexity of the setting. We will talk openly about budget at your first appointment and show you what is achievable within it.
No, there is no fee for your initial appointment with us. However, if we need a secondary appointment with curated stone sourcing for you, there is a $200 deposit required that will get applied towards your custom design.
Yes. Once you have chosen your stone and setting, we ask for a deposit of 50% before work begins, with the balance due on completion.
Yes, we regularly work with stones our clients already own. We will inspect the stone first to confirm it is sound enough to be reset, since older settings can hide chips or abrasions. There is no fee for inspection or removal. We do require you to sign a consent form for us to work with your stone.
Yes. Reworking an inherited or unworn piece into something you will actually wear is some of our favourite work. Bring it in and we will talk through what is possible with the metal and stones you have. Just know that we don’t offer alterations to existing designs; we would be helping you recreate an entirely new piece within our design aesthetic.
Most clients come in two to three times: an initial consultation to talk through ideas, a curated stone viewing appointment and final design review, and collection. Anything else can usually be handled by email.
It helps but it is not essential. We can size you in store, and if the ring is a surprise we can work from a ring she already wears or make an educated estimate and resize later where the design allows.
Yes. We will not begin fabrication until you have approved the design. Within 1-2 weeks of placing your first deposit we offer either a CAD rendering or wax model depending on the style of ring.
Small adjustments are often possible early on, but once fabrication has begun changes become difficult and may affect cost and timeline. This is why we spend time on the design stage before anything is made. Please note that custom orders are final sale.
Yes. All of our Anne Sportun settings are designed to sit flush and stack with our wedding rings. We can also make a fitted or contoured band to sit flush against your engagement ring, whether we made the engagement ring or not.
They take us ~4-6 weeks to make, but can take longer if we are custom fitting it to an engagement ring. We will take all the necessary measurements during your appointment so you can keep your engagement ring with you.
Yes. We make bands across a range of widths, textures and finishes in yellow, white, rose gold and platinum. Our simple bands start at ~$1,100 and increase in price as the size and width increases.
This is one of the most common situations we see, and there are good ways around it. We can work from a ring she already wears, and many of our settings can be resized afterwards. We can also offer a presentation ring, where you choose one of our beautiful ready-made rings for the proposal.
Should she want to switch it or design something custom, we can do so together after the proposal. These rings cannot be sized and must be exchanged within our two-week exchange window.
We recommend allowing at least 8 weeks for a custom piece, and longer if you are sourcing a specific stone or proposing during a busy season. If your date is sooner than that, tell us and we will be honest about what is possible.
Cut, carat weight, colour and clarity are the four factors used to grade a diamond. Cut has the greatest effect on how a stone actually looks, because it determines how the diamond handles light. We will walk you through all four in person so you can decide where your budget is best spent.
Yes, we offer both natural and lab-grown diamonds. We think choosing a diamond type that aligns with your values is most important, which is why we want to offer as many options as possible. This is a question we are asked often, and we are happy to talk through the differences in cost, sourcing and resale.
Yes, all our diamonds are conflict-free. Any natural diamonds we source go through the Kimberley Process. We also love working with recycled antique and vintage diamonds.
Having been making engagement rings for almost 40 years, we have an amazing source of trustworthy suppliers that we work with to ensure your diamond is coming from conflict-free mines. We also offer Canadian-mined diamonds!
Most of our diamonds above 1.0ct will come with either a GIA or an IGI certification. Any uncertified diamonds will come with an appraisal. Ask us about any specific stone, and we will tell you exactly what documentation comes with it.
For custom work, we can work with almost any semi-precious gemstone, including emeralds, rubies, sapphires, spinel, tourmaline, and aquamarine. For engagement rings and wedding rings specifically, we like to work with either diamonds or sapphires due to their hardness and durability. Sapphires in particular are a popular alternative for engagement rings because they are hard enough for daily wear.
Diamonds and sapphires are the most durable choices for a ring worn every day. Softer stones such as opal, pearl and emerald are beautiful but need more care and are better suited to pieces worn occasionally. We will always tell you honestly how a stone will behave over time.
Salt-and-pepper diamonds contain visible inclusions that give them a speckled, smoky character rather than the clarity of a traditional white diamond. They can come in a wide variety of colours and saturations. No two stones will be the same. They appeal to people who want something less conventional and like a more understated sparkle.
We use 14k white gold rather than 18k, as it has a brighter white colour and doesn't need rhodium plating. Most white gold is plated to keep that bright white look, but we prefer the metal itself to be bright white to avoid constant maintenance and ‘yellowing’ of your piece.
18k gold has a higher gold content, which gives it a richer colour, while 14k gold has more metal alloy content. Our Anne Sportun collections are made with 18k yellow gold as we prefer the warmth and colour it brings. Anne has always taken pride in working with the finest materials, while still ensuring they are suitable for daily wear. Many of our alternate designers work with 10k or 14k. We will recommend one over the other depending on the piece and how you live.
No, we don't currently use recycled gold in our pieces. We do love giving new life to recycled antique and vintage diamonds, and every diamond we use is conflict-free (see "Are your diamonds conflict-free?"). If you'd like to know more about where our materials come from, just ask. We're always happy to talk it through.
Yes. Our yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold are safe for sensitive skin as they are not plated. If you have a nickel allergy, our white gold does contain some nickel. We are able to offer platinum or a palladium alloy white gold in place of our traditional white gold if you have that sensitivity.
If you have reacted to jewellery before, tell us, and we will point you towards the metals least likely to cause a problem.
All gold develops a softer surface with wear as fine scratches build up, which many people prefer to a factory finish. While they develop a natural patina from daily wear, the colour won't change. If you do notice any colour change, it could be some mild oxidation or a reaction if exposed to certain chemicals. We can polish and deep-clean all our pieces to restore them.
Our white gold does not need to be replated. Against the industry standard, we do not rhodium plate our white gold. We work with a specific 14k white gold blend that has a bright white finish naturally without any additional plating.
Yes, all Anne Sportun designs can be custom-made in platinum. Please reach out if there is a specific piece you have a question about.
Wrap a piece of string around your finger, mark where the ends meet, and measure that length in millimetres. Compare it against the conversion chart on our sizing page, which covers US and Canadian, UK and EU sizes. For anything important, we recommend being sized in-store as the string method can be a little wishy-washy.
A choker sits close to the neck at 12 to 15 inches, and a princess or standard length falls just below the collarbone at 16 to 20 inches. Matinee sits at or just below the bust at 21 to 24 inches, opera runs 30 to 36 inches and can be doubled, and rope is 37 to 40 inches. Our sizing page has the full breakdown. All product pages will list the length in inches.
Measure the circumference of your wrist just above the wrist bone with a flexible tape, then choose a bracelet at least half an inch larger. Our chain, strung and tied bead bracelets are made with extensions, so they fit a wide range of wrists.
Many of our rings can be resized. For the most part, only very wide (8mm+) and full eternity rings cannot be sized. Any Anne Sportun rings come with a complimentary first resize during the first year of purchase. Any additional resizes will be subject to a small fee depending on the change.
The quote will take 1-2 weeks, and the resize will take an additional 1-2 weeks. Please note that once a ring has been sized, it is considered a custom order and is a final sale.
Eternity bands, rings with stones set all the way around, and very wide bands cannot be resized without remaking them. We will always tell you before you buy if a design has this limitation.
We do not currently send out sizers. If you are local, the most accurate option is to come in and be sized properly. If you aren’t local, we recommend visiting a nearby jewellery store for sizing.
A ring should slide on with light resistance and take a small amount of effort to come off over the knuckle. Fingers swell in heat and after exercise and shrink in the cold, so we recommend sizing in the middle of the day at a normal temperature. Sometimes we may even recommend coming in for a fitting twice if your hands feel swollen or puffy during your appointment.

We offer a warranty against manufacturing defects and craftsmanship-related deficiencies, which typically show up within the first year of wear. It does not cover normal wear and tear, such as scratches, metal wearing down or warping, or damage to stones. We inspect every piece before determining whether an issue is a manufacturing defect.
Any alteration or repair carried out by a goldsmith not approved by Anne Sportun voids the warranty. If your piece needs work, come to us first, and we will advise you.
No. We do not warranty stone damage, breakage or loss, and we strongly recommend insuring your jewellery against loss, damage and theft. Annual inspections (which are complimentary) help prevent stone loss, since settings may loosen over time with regular wear.
Email store@annesportunjewellery.com with your name, a description of the piece and the issue, a photo and proof of purchase. If we can repair it, we will issue a return authorization number and shipping instructions. If you bought the piece from another retailer, please contact them first.
We will provide a repair quote within roughly two weeks of receiving your piece, and repairs themselves typically take two to four weeks. Repair, service and shipping charges are the client's responsibility.
Fine jewellery items can often be repaired, either in-house or by the original designer. Silver pieces may be repairable, though silver is soft and prone to scratching and tarnishing. Gold-plated costume and fashion pieces generally cannot be repaired, as the materials are not built for extensive wear and repair. Please always reach out, and we will do our best to help you find a solution!
No. We do not offer repair services for other jewellers' work that we did not sell to the customer.
Yes, we offer complimentary cleaning and inspections on any piece purchased from us. We recommend an annual cleaning and inspection on any fine jewellery to catch loosening settings before a stone is lost.
Yes, we provide complimentary appraisals with every Anne Sportun engagement ring. We can also provide an appraisal for any piece for a fee of $100. We do recommend insuring your jewellery against loss, damage and theft.
Clean and dry each piece before putting it away, then store it in a box or drawer with individual compartments so pieces do not tangle or scratch each other. Keep jewellery somewhere cool, dry and dark, away from sunlight, humidity and chemicals. We recommend storing your jewellery in small plastic bags to prevent dust and dirt build-up and tarnish. Anti-tarnish strips help with silver, and harder stones should be kept apart from softer ones. We offer genuine leather jewellery cases to keep your pieces safe and secure.
Silver reacts with moisture and pollutants in the air, which is what causes tarnish. Storing it dry, away from humidity, and using anti-tarnish strips or bags will slow it considerably. A silver polishing cloth can help remove tarnish buildup.
We recommend taking pieces off before showering, swimming or sleeping. Chlorine, salt water and soap build-up all dull metal and can loosen settings over time.
We recommend warm water with a mild dish soap, then using a soft-bristled toothbrush to scrub your piece. Please avoid ultrasonic cleaners on any stone other than a sapphire or diamond. Bring pieces in, and we can clean them properly for you.
We strongly recommend removing jewellery for working out, sports, gardening and lifting anything heavy. Pressure and impact are what warp bands and loosen stones.
You are welcome to walk in during opening hours. For engagement rings, custom work or anything that needs unhurried attention, we recommend booking an appointment so we can give you our full time. You will receive a confirmation email once your appointment is scheduled.
